All About File Formats
All Colophon fonts are available in four different file formats:
.OTF
(Open Type Format)
.TTF
(True Type Format)
.WOFF
(Web Open Font Format)
.WOFF2
(Web Open Font Format 2)
Files will be delivered in different formats depending on the use case and determined by the licensing purchased.
Desktop, App and Broadcast Licenses
For Desktop, App and Broadcast licenses, files are provided in .OTF
format, which is designed for use across multiple platforms. For more information on desktop files, read our guide to installing desktop files.
Web Licenses
.WOFF
and .WOFF2
files are compressed versions of the original .TTF
file, with the reduced file size allowing for faster load times. Web fonts are provided in .WOFF
, .WOFF2
, and .TTF
formats, although all major browsers will support .WOFF2
files.
Web file formats should only be used to host live web text rather than being installed locally. For more information and how to use, read our guide to installing web fonts.
Variable Font Files
Variable and custom static instance fonts are delivered as .TTF
files and can be used in both desktop and web applications. There are some limitations to which desktop applications will support variable technology. For more information, read our introduction to variable font guide.
